i2i Infinity Ltd and The Bristol Chamber of Commerce put the first ever EU Certificate of Origin on a Blockchain.

In May 2018, the initial pilot project received an online application for an EC certificate of origin from Bristol based engineering business, Renishaw plc, and added the digitally received data to the CO BLOCKCHAIN, which has been developed and run by South West bases software development company, i2i Infinity Ltd.


Bristol Chamber of Commerce supported the process by certifying the document using their online e-z Cert service, which enabled the digital process to complete. A physical document was produced alongside the blockchain in order to be compliant with existing regulations, but this document is unique and has a QR Barcode that links to the CO BLOCKCHAIN and the digital proof of certification.

The CO BLOCKCHAIN has been developed by i2i Infinity using Ethereum infrastructure, it has a verification website that validates the certificate on the blockchain and displays the ledger records. i2i Infinity is looking to further develop the solution using Hyperledger Fabric, which will enhance the solution and align the technology development with businesses like IBM & Mearsk.

A certificate of origin is a commonly used document by businesses trading internationally, and is used as a proof of origin of the goods being shipped. It is known that fraudulent documents have been detected within the supply chain and although the total figure is uncertain, there is certainly a problem with this type of fraud. This emerging technology will prevent fraud and guarantee a certificates authenticity against the immutable blockchain.

i2i Managing Director Adam Underwood said: With the United Kingdom having agreed to adopt the Union Customs Code (UCC), and HMRC set to deliver a new customs declaration service which will implement the rules of the UCC, digitised trade is a key requirement, this pilot is a demonstration of the UK’s ability to lead technology for international trade.

We have moved from the Old Brewhouse to the Old Mill

On 22nd July 2016 we moved to Harvest Court in Shepton Mallet, a new location for a new decade in our company’s history.

Our newly refurbished office in this old and substantial building, reflects our business.  We are old (well 30 years old) and well established, we take a modern and innovative approach to the software and services we offer, but retain an old fashioned belief that customer support should be real people on our help desk offering a friendly and personalised service to all our customer .

We are 30 – help us Celebrate!

Founded in 1986, we have been supporting exporters for 30 years!


Our goal was to provide integrated, automated and easy to use export documentation systems for exporters.

We were the first company to automate export documents using PC and desktop laser printer.

What did that mean in 1986? 

  • Integration meant transferring data from a sales order processing system to a PC using a 5-1/4 inch floppy disc.
  • Automation meant no more tipex to correct data, the spirit duplicator (the old Banda machine) became redundant and the Gestetner was no longer required to produce stencils for export documents.  Data could be corrected on a computer and a set of export documents took hours instead of days to produce.

  • Easy to use meant teaching staff in the export shipping department how to switch on and boot up a computer.  Most users were totally unfamiliar with PCs and home computing was in its infancy. So to support our customers we provided a support service and dedicated helpline, which has always been regarded as the best in the industry.

So what has changed?

Pretty much everything except that we are still supporting exporters and our goal is still to provide integrated, automated and easy to use systems which now manage Customs Services as well as export documents.

We produced the first software-as-a-service export documentation systems for exporters.

As the new century arrived, in 2000 in partnership with the British Chambers of Commerce, we went live with e-Cert.  It was now possible to apply for an EC Certificate of Origin online.  It took several years for the this new way of working to be embraced by exporters, but today e-z Cert V7 provides a state of the art system producing a range of documents certified by Chambers of Commerce throughout the UK and is the system of choice for getting same day certified documents from your Chamber.

It was only natural that our integrated export documentation system should go online too, so in 2002 our first customer subscribed to GTA Online, our fully integrated online service.  It offered all the automation benefits from integrating with the ERP system, without the initial cost outlay or the need to support complicated software in house.

We produced the first pay-as-you-go system for export documents and Customs Clearance.

By 2010 most of us are using the internet on a daily basis and Customs clearance has moved online, so why should it be only major exporters who benefited from online efficiency?  e-Z Consign was a natural progression from both GTA and e-z Cert and so we developed a simple manual entry, pay-as-you-go system for lower volume exporters who just want to be able to work online, use the right documents and manage their Customs Clearance, easily and quickly and be sure they comply with regulations.

So today we have our three main products, all up to date using the latest technology and making it easy for you, just as we always have, and our “best in the business” implementation and support services are still here to
upport you.

It has been an extraordinary adventure and I have enjoyed every minute of it!  Thank you to all our customers old and new, who have travelled this journey with us and we look forward to supporting you for the next 30 years.  Look out for our “Help us Celebrate” special offers to you during the next 12 months.

When you use an i2i system training is a given

It’s not just the software, it’s the service that makes the difference.  We know this at i2i Infinity, which is why when you buy one of our integrated systems you get a trainer at your site to ensure you have the level of integration you need.

When Kingsland Wines implemented our GTA  EMCS system integrated with their JBA System 21, they appear to have made our trainer very welcome.

If you are moving wines, spirits, beers or cider around the EU or worldwide, you will need to make sure you comply with the right regulations as the right time to ensure you don’t pay duty on your movements.  EMCS enables you to move your goods throughout the EU in duty suspension, and NES will take them beyond the EU border.  We have a range of online products to make this easy for you – and training to help get you going, either online or on site, whichever suits you.

Ask Our Helpdesk – What is the cost of certified documents?

Q1.  I require a quote on how much it will cost us to get an invoice approved by BCC. (Just invoice only) and need to know how your online request system will work.

A.   As we are the software providers of e-z Cert costs for the service are not provided by us.  The actual service of issuing certified documents is provided by the Chamber of Commerce, who will also be the body with whom you agree a formal undertaking and to whom you will make payment for the service provided.

I initially suggest that you check out the Chamber Directory to establish your local Chamber of Commerce, and then make contact with them directly.  Once you are happy that they can provide the service you require (i.e. not all chambers accept credit card payments), then you can register for an account to apply for certificates with them at www.e-zcert.com/uk.

On e-z Cert you can complete Invoices, Certificates of Origin and/or upload your own documentation for stamp approval by the chamber.  These documents can be submitted online and either returned from the chamber electronically for you to print in your workplace or via the post.  With e-z Cert you have the ability for your invoice to be stamped on as the original or as a copy of the original, as per the options below:

It’s here – e-z Cert V.7

We are celebrating something special this year, and here is a gift to you!

This week we are releasing e-z Cert V.7 and our whole team has been working hard to give you the best product whilst keeping the familiarity of e-z Cert and all of its great features.   

Untitled2e-z Cert is in it’s 16th year and has led the way in enabling exporters to work online to speed up your business processes and get your exports moving.    Still leading the way, the purpose of the e-z V.7 project has been to give you the best of the latest technologies and make the application process easier and quicker.

With fewer screens to navigate and some of the features you have become used to when working online, such as a progress bar, easier signature management, and a checkout to review the order, creating your documents really will be easier and quicker. 

We’ve also upgraded our hosted server environment which means, combined with the latest technology, we’re ensuring e-z Cert is here to serve you for another 16 years.

A big thank you to the UK Chambers of Commerce who have provided feedback on the trial system, to ensure that it works for you, their customers.  We appreciate your support.  

We will deliver V7 to our production environment on Thursday, 31st March at which point it will be live for all customers and as always our support team will be here, bright and early, to give support you all.
