Should you be using ATA Carnets?

The ATA Carnet is an international customs document that permits the duty-free and tax-free temporary export and import of goods for up to one year.  A worldwide chain of 74 countries are signed up to ATA Carnet guarantee chain administered by The ICC World Chambers Federation (WCF).

ATA Carnet, a Passport for your Equipment

If you are travelling with equipment and samples which you will ultimately be bringing back to the UK, then the ATA Carnet can be used to avoid any duties and taxes which may otherwise apply.  The Carnet must be presented to Customs each time your equipment is imported, exported or transits through a country. For Customs purposes the EU is treated as a single territory,so a Carnet does not therefore need to be presented in each EU country visited, only at the place of first entry and exit from the EU.    Click here for more information

Obtaining an ATA Carnet

The ATA Carnet can now be obtained using e-z Cert to enable you to apply for your ATA Carnet online .  If you are already an e-z Cert user then you can apply for ATA Carnets straight away, otherwise simply register to use e-z Cert for all your Chamber certified documents.

In the UK certain chambers of commerce are authorised to deliver ATA Carnets.  They will be able to tell you if an ATA Carnet can be issued for the temporary export you plan and they will also advise you of the fee payable and the security required.    They will then provide you with a signed and stamped ATA Carnet for you to take with you on your journey. e-z Cert is the UK’s leading certification site used by Chambers of Commerce throughout the UK to deliver online services.
